Check the licence before anything else
Only three kinds of people may legally be paid to give Canadian immigration advice or to represent you in an application: a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant, a member of a Canadian law society in good standing, or a Quebec notary. Everyone else, including agents in Ghana who are not licensed in Canada, is operating outside the law when they charge for it.
Every licensed consultant appears on the CICC public register. Search the register yourself. If a consultant is not on it, do not pay them.
No licensed consultant can promise a visa, a permit or permanent residence. An officer decides every application. If someone tells you the outcome is certain, that is the clearest sign they are not licensed.

Families and sponsorship
Many enquiries from Ghana come from families already partly in Canada: a spouse who is a permanent resident, an adult child who is a citizen, a parent hoping to visit or to be sponsored. Those are different applications with different rules, and the relationship has to be documented in the way Canada expects, which is not always the way it is documented at home.

Documents from Ghana
Canadian applications ask for documents in a specific form: certified translations where needed, police certificates from every country lived in for a set period, proof of funds in a form an officer can verify, and educational credentials assessed by a designated organisation. Documents that are perfectly valid in Ghana can be refused if they are not presented the way Canada requires.
This is one of the places where licensed representation earns its fee, and one of the places where an unlicensed agent most often causes a refusal.
Arriving, and what comes after
A visa or a permit gets you to the border. What happens at the port of entry, and what you are allowed to do after you arrive, depends on the document you hold and the conditions on it. Understanding those conditions before you travel avoids problems that are far harder to fix from inside Canada.
