Alberta AAIP Changes in 2026: What Alberta Updated, With Dates

This is the dated record of what Alberta changed in the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program during 2026. For how the program works, the streams and the Worker Expression of Interest, see our AAIP service page.

2026 changes, in date order

• 25 February 2026 (posted 11 March). New fields in the Worker Expression of Interest collect wages and hours of work for candidates with an Alberta job offer. Alberta states that expressions of interest missing this information will not be considered in the draws that use it.
• 7 April 2026. A fee now applies to submit a Worker Expression of Interest, the first fee charged at that stage. Alberta states that fees for cancelled expressions of interest are non-refundable, with one exception noted under 26 May.
• 26 May 2026. An edit function was added. Editing does not extend the one year validity. Candidates may also reject an invitation to a stream they do not want and return to the pool before the 15 day invitation period ends. Candidates who paid the fee between 7 April and 26 May and cancelled to make edits may request a refund, and Alberta lists who is not eligible.
• 17 June 2026. Alberta launched the Eligibility Explorer, an online tool it describes as helping you find streams that match your situation.
• 10 August 2026. Alberta received an additional federal nomination allocation from IRCC for 2026.
• 12 August 2026. The Rural Entrepreneur, Graduate Entrepreneur and Foreign Graduate Entrepreneur stream pages now explain the existing economic establishment requirement in more detail. Alberta states eligibility criteria have not changed.

Earlier changes still in effect this year

• Rural Renewal Stream, effective 1 January 2026 (announced 18 November 2025). Endorsement allocation limits for designated communities, one year validity on Endorsement of Candidate Letters, a TEER-based endorsement model, and a valid work permit requirement for foreign nationals in Canada at application and assessment.
• Alberta Express Entry Stream, from 17 March 2025. Alberta no longer invites candidates under the family connection and occupation in demand pathway. Points for a family connection in Alberta that meets Alberta’s definition can still be claimed.

What had not changed on the check date

On 5 October 2026, Alberta's streams page listed four worker streams (Alberta Opportunity, Alberta Express Entry, Rural Renewal, and Tourism and Hospitality) with the Dedicated Health Care Pathway, and four entrepreneur streams (Rural Entrepreneur, Graduate Entrepreneur, Farm, and Foreign Graduate Entrepreneur). None carried a pause or closure notice. Claims online that the Alberta Opportunity Stream is paused describe an earlier period, not the program as it stood on that date.
